Eating In Riviera Maya

Good afternoon all....

My wife and I will be visiting Mexico for the 3rd time and will be staying in Playa Del Carmen (Playacar Palace).

We have not previously ventured off on our own to do anything that wasn't tour-related but were thinking of doing so this time around to find good to very good (if not exceptional) and authentic Mexican cuisine.

Does anyone out there have some recommendations as well as how best to get there without getting monetarilly raped or worse?

Thanks

We were in Playa Del Carmen last February and loved it. We really enjoyed dinners at Yaxche and La Casa del Agua.

If you have a car I would suggest going to Puerto Morelos. It's a little town back towards the airport. They have several great little restaurants and the town has that genuine Mexican feel to it. Lots of little shops and friendly people.

Tulum has some fun little places. Do the ruins, then stop in town for shopping and dining.

You'll also want to post and read over on the Latin America forum here.
