Eating at south Lake Tahoe
Having given up on a decent hotel/motel near Kyburz we've booked at the Alpenrose Inn at South Shore for an overnight. Where to have a good dinner? Thai, perhaps, or even just a really good burger. Any ideas? Not concerned about the price this time around.

I don't know Thai, but Base Camp Pizza right near the gondola is really good pizza.

If you like Hawaiian, Kalani's is good.

Been a few years, but enjoyed Izzy's for burgers and Red Hut for a great breakfast.

All time favorite is Evans American Gourmet. Simply fabulous. Close second. Cafe Fiore

Thanks for the suggestions. Evans sounds fabulous, but it's out of the price range for our accompanying friend. Next time, for just the two of us, Evans it will be. Both Izzy and Base Camp Pizza are good options.

Susie is the Lake Tahoe go to person!

Izzys is still there? I used to love the Ortega burger at the Auburn branch!
|
Given the fire near Pollock Pines, it may be more a question of whether we can get to south shore at all!
|
Go around via I-80. I'd stay off hwy 50 even if it is re-opened.

We have a week to decide. Taking I-80 would mean navigating that terrible stretch of freeway where so many accidents have happened recently.

Uh uh. You don't need to use that part of I-80 through Natomas. At the 80/50 split continue on 50 across the Pioneer Bridge and catch business 80 in the middle of Sacramento. This will connect w/ I-80 near Watt Avenue/Roseville Rd. Easy Peasy. In fact I often use this route even when there isn't nasty construction on 80 across the top of town - depends on the time/day of the week. |
We're back from the lake and really enjoyed our short stay at the Alpenrose Inn, which has a bit of a European feel to it.
We weren't able to eat at Base Camp Pizza because of the crowds, but we had a very nice (and relatively quiet) dinner at Brooks Bar and Deck at the Edgewood golf club. If you're really hungry, it's the place to go: portions are HUGE. There's also a fine-dining restaurant there with a menu that was quite interesting, albeit pricey. Although we were just inside Nevada, no one was smoking. |
