Eating alone in Miami
I will be traveling to Miami for business and will be dining alone several nights. Any suggestions for great places to dine alone in South Beach?

Jerry's Famous Deli on Collins, just south of Lincoln Road
Cafeteria on Lincoln Road LIncoln Road Cafe on Lincoln Road Front Porch Cafe on Ocean Drive |
I love Rascal's deli, great place to just sit up at the counter and eat.
Nemo's is another great place to sit up at the counter and eat. The cook loves to throw you a free bite of what he's cooking. New Cafe, just sit and watch the freak show. |
I can vouch for Nemo. Had a great dinner there.

And it's sister restaurant Shoji Sushi. Oh, how I miss the shishito peppers and the skirt steak marinated in sweet soy and saki. So yummy!
They also own Prime 112, which is a great steak restaurant. The Icebox is a fantastic tiny little place off of Lincoln Road. The menu changes daily. It's BYOB, though, in case that's important to you. And make sure you go to the Frieze...best sorbet on the planet. My faves are grapefruit and champagne. |
Thanks everyone for the great suggestions.

As someone who eats out in Sobe all the time, I cannot think of a better place to eat and people watch then at the bar of China Grill PERIOD.
I am assuming that cost is not a big factor, and fun and eye candy are a big consideration, otherwise asside from Nemo's, the rest of the choices on this page make me feel depressed. |
Mark66 You bet, if money ain't an option China Grill is a great place to people watch. But the food is really expensive. And another suggestion is Hotel's restaurants. You can have your Hotel call make the reservation informing them of single diner and you'd be suprised what a great table and service you'll recieve. I know this from experience. Wish I was in Miami alone hitting all those eating spots, I'd have to bring my fat lady pants. ;)

I've been to Miami several times and I would recommend heading to Lincoln Road if you plan to eat alone. Also, if eating alone, it's probably better to go earlier rather than later.
Skip Cafeteria. Instead, head for Pacific Time for a wonderful, luxurious no-expense spared meal. Balans has the best brunch. Van Dyke cafe has wonderful all-day dining - plus you can eat at the bar. News Cafe is okay too. Nemo and Prime 112 are excellent but reservations are a must. They are really date places, so perhaps go to these places early or for lunch. China Grill is excellent, but mostly for couples and groups. The menu at China Grill is designed for sharing so I would give it a miss unless you can find someone to accompany you. Otherwise for casual dining, I would recommend just about anywhere along Lincoln Road or Ocean Drive. |
Duoak...as a frequent alone dinner at china grill I canno disagree more. Yes many of hte items are meant to share, but there are just as many perfect for a single guest.
For starters, they have the most amazing salads available in single orders such as the duck salad, the calamari etc. They also serve a large assortment of sushi, all in either single or large portions. Best yet, you can order steaks, and I have to tell you some of the most amazing pasta dishes you will ever have. I always sit at the bar to have dinner, and in 8 years I have never been dissapointed. The bartenders are the best, and they can recommend specials or even change items for you to accomodate a single or multiple people. Best of all the martinis are the best I believe on the beach and as a people watching place you simply cannot beat the China Grill. As for price...all depends, you can eat very well with a drink for $25, but anyone wanting to go here will not be dissapointed no matter what. Best time to dine at China Grill is between 7 and 9....Fri and Sat are really busy. Just go up to the bar and tell them that you would like to eat there, and they will help you grap a seat as they come open if it is really busy..JUST DONT TAKE MINE! Just a comment on Pacific...great place, excellent food, but you could not get more laid back. I would take my date there for a quiet mellow dinner in subdued lighting, but I cannot imagine dinning alone. Good choice on Van Dyke's which is the sister restaurant of News Cafe, but I would save that one for lunch or brunch. Great Jazz there as well. |
I love this type of thread. I really am a chowhound at heart. This is my way of bookmarking.

Pacific Time closed - a victim of rising rents on Lincoln Road. Try Sushi Samba for very good sushi and a great atmosphere.

Pacific Times CLOSED!!! When did that happen???
Your right, the sq foot costs are over $50. |
| All times are GMT -8. The time now is 01:51 AM. |
