Easy Waikki Activities
 

I'll be in Waikki in June with an infant, prepared to travel mostly by foot. What are some easy activities in the area? Family friendly places to lunch? Walking tours? Thankfully, I'll have my husband but not my 3 year old!

Most of Waikiki is family friendly the IMP has a food court and Duke's Canoe Club is right across the street in the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. The aquarium and zoo are a little further towards Diamond Head. You and your husband could take turns learning to surf. You can maybe watch a movie on the beach for free and a hula show every night on Kuhio Beach.

This is to Hulajake....was wondering about the movie on the beach....what nights do they run the movie? We did it a couple of years ago and it was a fun way to spend the evening. So cool to burrow down in the sand and watch the movie with the stars, moon and flashing lights of planes coming and going all around you. We were hoping they'd still be doing that.

I can amuse myself for hours just walking around Waikiki, people watching and browsing in interesting stores. I like to walk through the lobbies of the historic hotels, the Royal Hawaiian and the Moana. The Moana has rocking chairs on the front porch and that is a great place to sit and watch the world go by (you do not have to be staying there to do this). I have no experience with actual walking tours, but if you google plenty will come up.

I enjoy the Waikiki aquarium, and the last time I was there a few years ago the interior was cool and dark. You might want to check out Kapiolani Park at the east end, where I think you could put down a blanket on the grass for a rest, and deRussy park at the west end where there is a playground. Of course, just hanging out on the beach is an easy activity.

For breakfast/brunch we like the Shorebird, near deRussy, very family-friendly. I can't think of other specific resaurants at the moment, but it seems to me that just about all the moderately-priced restaurants are family-friendly. We usually don't go to expensive restaurants so I can't comment on those:-) Actually I think Waikiki as a whole is pretty family-friendly--or maybe I should say Hawai'i as a whole is family-friendly.

Kalena they are normally Saturday and Sunday nights however they had went to an bimonthly schdule when we were there. I checked the website for sunset on the beach and they had only one weekend schduled for Jan and Feb. Maybe someone could enlighten us to any changes I think that was the only link you may have missed Dusty or did I not see it.

Hulajake, you are right. They only seem to have the Sunset on the Beach schedule for only a month or two in advance.

Even then they usually don't have the films listed until a few weeks in advance.

Most times it is Saturday & Sunday.

January was 6th & 7th

But for February it is Friday, Feb 9 & Saturday Feb 10.

Some months have two weekends. September had two weekends of films for Aloha Week.

November (I think) had three nights. One was for a surf film to kick off the surf season.

Thanks for the information! Went to th website and took a stroll down memory lane. Sadly, no movie while we're there. Seems kind of strange that they only have it once a month during the busy winter months. We had such fun the last time...well, darn.

Hi Kalena....just to explain, it actually costs tens of thousands of dollars to produce a 'sunset on the beach' event, which may be why the # of shows got cut back....

Thank you so much for all these great suggestions! It'll take me a while to sort through them all. I do hope they have movies on the beach the weekend we're there. This trip will certainly be different from the island-hopping nature-adventure we had the last time we visited Hawaii(7 years ago, based on Maui). Maybe we will try taking turns learning to surf this time....
