Easter in NYC

Yipppee!! We're coming back! Esme, Mazzrat, DW and I are coming over for a few days at Eastertime. Anything we really shouldn't miss at this time of year? (only ever been over Oct/Nov time before)
Mazz is now 17 and Daniel is 13, is there anything anyone can suggest that they might particularly like to see/do?

Does anyone know what Southgate Tower hotel is like? We're not sure where to stay this time and that looked ok. And any good, reasonably priced cafes/restaurants nearby?

Cheers, Gytha

The flower show at Macy's is great. Go to their website for info. For other activites do a text search for teens AND NYC.

Can't remember where the Southgate is. I think it's part of the affinia.com group that has all suite hotels. You might check the other hotels in that group as well.

For traditionalists the Easter Parade on 5th avneue is a must - good for a hoot if nothing else.

What day is the Easter parade?

Will all the shops be closed on Easter Monday? (I'm presuming that they will be)

No, Easter Monday isn't a holiday in the states. Some stores may be closed on Easter Sunday.

We always go to brunch, a show, Macy's for the flower show. If the weather is nice, you might want to walk around Central Park. The Conservatory Gardens (at 5th Ave and 103rd Street) are especially beautiful at that time of year.

Let me be the first to welcome you back!
Based on your previous track record in NYC, you'll definitely make the most of your visit!

The Easter Parade is a promenade up/down Fifth Avenue (near St. Patrick's/Rockefeller Center for everyone to show off their new spring finery. You typically also get a lot of folks wearing outrageous hats/costumes in order to be covered on local TV

check Time Out Magazine for street fairs. If the weather is good, here are some outdoor suggestions: rent bikes in Central Park, take in a Yankee Game, visit the Bronx Zoo, check out the trapeze at Chelsea Piers, do a walking tour of lower Manhattan, dine al fresco whenever possible.

Thanks everyone - and thanks Howard, nice to talk to you again! Some great suggestions there for us. I'm sure we'll have another million and one questions to ask before we board that plane!
