Easter in Chicago
 

My husband and I are arriving from Ireland in Chicago for 5 nights from Easter Saturday. We are staying on Michigan Avenue. Can you help with suggestions - theatre? possibility of getting tickets at short notice, top sites to visit, places to eat and of course what will the weather be like so I'll know what to pack!!!<BR>Thanks for any help <BR>Alison

my husband and i spent easter in chicago a couple of years ago - i highly recommend seeing if you can get reservations (it may be too late) at the Drake for their buffet - it is quite an experience and the view is right along the lake - very nice. As far as theater - go directly to the theater early in the day (you can find show info from the concierge or visitors guide)anyway, go to the theater early in the day and they will sell any season or researved tickets that haven't been picked up for that nights show - we saw the play Chicago 2nd row center for like $25 a piece - they will tell you when to come back and purchase the seats - sometimes they will sell them to you right then. Good luck - as far as weather, it has been quite the cool spring and long winter. I wouldn't expect anything warmer than 60's

Chicago is , indeed, a very nice city to visit (and live). I live in Chicago and have enjoyed the attractions that the city has to offer.<BR><BR>Here are some suggested things you may want to do or see:<BR>I recommend the Art Institute. It is a world class museum and has a wonderful impressionist collection. There are some other very good museums on the 'museum campus'. The museums there are The Field Museum (history), the Shedd Aquarium, and the Adler Planetarium. The Science Museum is excellent but you will need to take a cab there. You may enjoy one of the river tours. There are several companies offering river tours at the Michigan St. Bridge (near the Wrigley Bldg). For good steaks, I suggest Gibsons (my favorite), The Chicago Chop House, and the Saloon. For good Blue Music, Blue Chicago and Kingston Mines are great. For an unusual and enjoyable theater experience, try the 'Blue Man Group'. It is wonderful and unlike any other theater experience. It is being performed at the Briar Street Theater. Oh...I forgot to mention in my last posting...there are some wonderful afternoon teas on Michigan Ave. The Drake, Ritz Carlton, and Four Seasons all have very enjoyable teas.

Very timely post. I just booked our rooms for Easter weekend at the Omni (got a GREAT rate!) Any other Easter Sunday brunch recommendations besides The Drake? Also, does anyone know if most places (i.e. stores, museums, Disney Quest) will be closed for the holiday? Thanks!

I've only been to brunches in the suburbs which are a bit less expensive, Marriott Lincolnshire always has a very nice one for Mother's Day, maybe the downtown Marriott has something similar for Easter.<BR><BR>Alison, for 1/2 price same day theatre tickets, you can visit Hot Tix, there's one up near Michigan Avenue in the visitor center at 163 E. Pearson. There's also one near the shopping on State St. at 78 W. Randolph. You can get an idea of what might be available and the hours they are open at www.hottix.org., availability on weekends will be less than on weekdays.<BR><BR>I think most everything will be open on Easter, museums should all be open, you can check the individual websites to make sure.<BR><BR><BR>
