East Glacier 3 nights room has been canceled
 

Hi,
I'd appreciate suggestions on this surprising news today (8/20), My trip will begin on 9/05.
From 9/06, three nights I booked W Glacier Outdoor Center., no problem,
However, from 9/09 to 9/12 another 3 nights at East Glacier St. Mary "Rising Sun Motor Inn"
have been canceled due to brush fire., and this is so close to my departure., the rest of my hotel from 9/12 - 9/20, all set,

I phoned Glacier Outdoor Center immediately after I received the cancellation notice to see if there is a chance that we can stay 3 more nights, the answer was "no"., their room / cabin all sold out.
The original plan to stay the 2nd 3 nights at St. Mary is to go further North to Waterton Park.

Is to stay at the town outside W Glacier the only option for replacing the 3 nights in St. Mary?
BTW, on 9/12 after checked out from original plan ( of Rising Sun Motor Inn ) we are heading to
Helena for two nights ( 9/12 - 9/14 ).

I don't like to be super negative, but if you can cancel your entire trip I would do that. Go somewhere else this year! I was in Kalispell in mid June and it was hotter and drier that normal. This is a very bad fire year in the west.

I live in the Utah mountains and even though we don't have any fires in our state, the smoke is bad. We have not even seen our mountains this entire week and it smells like smoke. So much smoke blowing in from the fires in CA, ID, WA, OR.

It would be a much more enjoyable trip another year and EARLIER in the year. Fires are always a distinct possibility in the west in later summer, but due to the multiple years of severe drought fire season started early this year.

If you can't cancel, try somewhere around Flathead Lake, like Bigfork. Scenic and fun with lots to do.

Wait for John to see this, he lives there and can give current info and great suggestions. Poster kurieff lives in MT too and hopefully will have some good suggestions.

We stayed at the Mountain Pines Motel in East Glacier.

Very 1950's, very clean, very comfortable. Easy walk to restaurants.

Horses from lodge are wrangled back to their stables at a full gallop every evening,right past the front door. Quite a show.

The whole trip is 16-day from SEA. WA., to cancel it not an option.
My itinerary do include Flathead lake area after the GNP from 9/6/-12. then continue to other places.

I have taken Ackislander's advice and phoned the Mountain Pines Motel. the owner sounded very nice., I have booked the only one cabin for 5 of us.

At East Glacier, choice also with Glacier Park Lodge or Travelers rest
At Saint Mary, St Mary Lodge.
GPL and SML are not Xanterra's concession but Glacier Inc.
Trveler rest is independant.
Now with the closue of Rising sun and the diferent fires, aggecting also Waterton,
it's better to secure something and trying to get other...
GPL is not bad with nice views if you get one with mountain view and restaurant was good laqt year.
Traveler rest is nice , no breakfat and not restaurant.
The reviews on SML are not so good...
East Glacier is a good base to explore two medecine.
SML for the west part of GTTS road and Many Glacier.
Beware if you are hikers, some trails are closed due to the fires.
