east coast vacation - now!

Need to find a luxury, but not-too, vacation spot near the water (any) to relax, shop and eat great food for about 4 or 5 days next week. Two of us will be departing from CT and will be driving. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Do you want it to be warm enough to swim? And how far are you willing to drive?

Thanks for asking - no, we do not need be able to swim. Warm is nice, but not necessary. One day's worth of driving is okay, less than 1000 miles or so from CT. But I haven't thought about it long enough. Think we could convince ourselves to drive farther if we had the right incentive. Thanks!

If warm isn't necessary, why not try Montreal? Great food, lots of shopping (mostly underground in winter). Pretty city.

Have you looked into the Sanderling Inn in Duck, NC? I haven't been, but reading about it, it sounds very nice! It's a resort in the Outer Banks (and therefore on the water), but would definitely be too cold to swim in the ocean. Still, probably a heckuva lot warmer than CT!

It's in the ballpark of 600-700 miles, depending on where in CT you're coming from.

Interesting ideas - Montreal vs OBX. Both are certainly within range - thank you. Might be more exciting than Newport or Providence!

anyone know of a place near DelMarVa? Been searching and have run into places closed for the season. Do we have to go further south?

Try the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The town of St. Michaels would be a good place to start.

Interesting, I just this morning found the Hyatt in Cambridge, Md. Not exactly the type of small inn I was looking for, but at least its open for the season. Thanks, I will research St. Michaels for a small inn.
