East coast road trip with kids
My two boys (14 and 10) and I are planning a road trip between Florida and Michigan this early summer - for about 9 or 10 days. I am looking for some great kid adventures for a mom and kids to do - off the beaten path, so to speak, something memorable (rockhounding, southern plantation, dude ranch, Williamsburg etc.) that won't feel threatening - any suggestions, at all?

I'm not sure what route you're thinking of taking. Between Florida and Michigan makes me think I75, but then you mention Williamsburg, which is much further east. If you are thinking I75, we really liked a place called Kentucky Down Under. It is an Australian themed animal park and they also have caves there. Their website is http://www.kdu.com/

Thanks! I will check that one out! We haven't yet planned the route - I guess we will plan our route around stops - sounds nuts, but that's what the kids think would be great. We will probably need a night along the ocean somewhere, too. We live on the west coast so just about anything we find on the east coast is going to be new to us.

-Indiana Dunes state park ? (never been, but I heard its nice)
-Indianapolis -- the Indy 500 race museum and track tour, the American Indian museum, a great zoo and butterfly house.
-Riverboats on the Ohio? I think they are available that far west.
