East coast ideas for June/July
I'm in a vacation conundrum right now and I'm hoping you all can offer some advice. We (me and my husband) are trying to find a not too touristy or vastly overpriced vacation spot somewhere along the east coast (possibly along the southern portion). We're usually not warm weather vacationers, but we wanted to do something different this year (our last 2 vacations were Ireland and Canada). We have about 10 days total including driving travel time from Cincinnati. Sorry to be so vague.

savannah, sea island, st simon's, hilton head, charleston....
July is going to be very hot
but any beach area in the summer tends to become touristy/crowded because of supply and demand and the time that kids are out of school.
What do you enjoy doing with your days/nights while on vacation?
Total relaxation on the beach? Or do you want to be active??

Sorry to reply so late -computer problems. We're not the get up and go at 7a.m. people. We like take things slow, check-out the scenery and maybe do a little shopping in local shops, but other than that, we up for pure relaxation.

Are you looking specifically for beach? Beacuse beaches up and down the eastern seaboard are going to be packed during the summer. And if you're not on the beach, where at least you get a cooling breeze off the water, quite frankly you'll probably be miserable in the heat and humidity. (I've lived in Mississippi, North Carolina, and Massachusetts, and they're all pretty wretched for outdoor vacationing in the summer.)
However, there's a lovely spot in Tennessee called, I think, Blackberry Farms. It's in the mountains, so it's a little cooler in the summer. It's got a nice spa, you can do lots of sporty things like golf or horseback ride. Etc.
If you do want a beach, wouold you consider the Caribbean? It's the offseason there in the summer and you can find pretty good rates. Cincinnati is a Delta hub, isn't it? Check out and see where Delta flies. The prices may surprise you.

When I lived in your neck of the woods, two of my favorite areas for a visit were the Shenendoah Valley south from Harper's Ferry and the Blue Ridge Prkwy. Lots of history, lots of scenery, and usually not nearly as crowded as the coastal strip.
