East Coast Honey moon

Hi there,
We are a couple from Greece about 30 year old that we are thinking going for our honeymoon to the East Coast of the US.
We have about three weeks time and we are thinking begin our journey at the beggining of November. We are sure we want to see NY,some of the Orlando fun parks and we also want to make some roadtrips.
We think that would be interesting to see the Niagara falls and Washigton DC.
We don't know what else could be interesting so please help us organize our trip, any suggestions would be very helpfull.

Thanks
Effie - Nikos

yasou Nikos!

i just visited Greece for my first time with my wife (greek american) and her father (greek, from Kalamasia on Chios). was AMAZING!

sounds like you have a lot of places on your list, but with 3 weeks you have a good amount of time.

New York City, Washington DC, and Orlando, FL would certainly give you a nice mix of the american experience.

please let us know how you plan to get around: fly in/out of each US city, or maybe rent a car and drive between some destinations?

while the weather in Florida will be very nice in november, Orlando is pretty much a collection of theme parks, so if that's what you want, that's great. but there are other more beautiful and interesting places to visit in the US.

Niagra Falls is nice, but might be a bit out of the way, depending on your route.

if you end up driving from NYC to DC, the "greektown" neighborhood of Baltimore is close to the highway and might make for a nice place to stop for a meal.

maybe tell us more about what you like and your interests and we can help you better. Beaches? Cities and museums? Mountains and romantic hide-aways? you can find all of that on the East Coast.

kalo taxidi!

Those places are very spread out, so you'd probably need to make several flights, plus some car or train to get around.

One part I could suggest is after New York, renting a car and driving up into the New England states (such as Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire) because they are very beautiful. These states are small in size so you can cover alot of ground. For instance, driving (or take the train) from New York up thru Connecticut, Massachusetts, to Vermont is only approx. 3 hours.

A couple of suggestions.

Consider the weather - in November the north (esp Niagara Falls) can be VERY cold - with snow - and many sights are closed. So while NYC is a great idea - I wouldn;t waste all the time to get to Niagara Falls (at least 2 days) just to see some water fall while you're freezing.

Getting to DC from NYC is easy by train and I would reco that as the way to go. From there to Florida you will need to fly (train is incredibly slow and doesn't go many places).

You will need different wardrobes - since NYC will be in the 40's (perhaps down to the 20s at night), DC a little warmer and Florida still in the 80s during the day.

Instead of day trips you might want to stop for 2 days in Philadelphia (same train as NYC to DC). And from DC you can rent a car to see Washington's home - about 30 minutes from DC and a drive in VA for a couple of days to see two other great places in Virginia: Monticello (Jefferson's home) and colonial Williamsburg. The latter is a brilliant colonial town with beautifully preserved houses and costumed docents who show everything was done at the time.

It makes more sense to do North to South in terms of weather. But - if you want to relax at the beginning of your honeymoon you might want to do Florida first and then fly to DC and continue from there - since VA, DC and NYC are much more doing places than relaxing ones.

After your suggestions we forget about Niagara and we are thinking of doing the trip from North to South so we can relax to the end of our journey.
We are thinking flying to Boston or NY from Europe (what do you suggest?)and we want to use car if it possible instead of planes-if we are talking for 4 hours of driving at max-.
We like cities most but we also want to see some of the American nature.
We think something like this:
-Boston 3days -maybe a daytour around
By car to
-NY 5d
By car to
-Washigton DC 3d
By plane to
-Orlando 3d
By car to
-Miami 3d

What do you think? Can you please help us fill the days and correct posible mistakes?

Thanks

Effie-Nikos

we flew into Athens, stayed only a couple days, saw Acropolis/Parthenon.

then we flew to the island of Chios and spent about 10 days there. our cousins live in the village of Kalimasia, but we saw several beaches and other towns on Chios.

didn't get to see any of the more popular touristy islands, or the mainland outside of Athens.

maybe next time.

good luck with your US trip, let me know if i can help you out any more.

I think you have a great basic plan, and I especially agree with nytraveler's suggestions.

The only thing I think you are missing is a visit to the south. I know you are thinking Florida is the south, but not the way I mean.

If you can do it, I would try to spend 2 or 3 days in Charleston SC (in between Washington DC and Florida). Stay in a bed & breakfast inn in the historic district of Charleston and you'll see a lot of the history of the colonial south, and you'll sample some of the best food in the south (really, I think some of the best food in the U.S.). Did I mention that Charleston is probably one of the most romantic cities in America?
