East Coast beach wedding locale?
I am in search of the "perfect" locale for my wedding. Ideally, a small, candle lit chapel for just close family, followed by a week of partying on the beach with friends. Any ideas? Oh yes, most likely in late March. Thanks!

Well, I can tell you one place you don't want to be, and that is Nantucket!
Even June is dicy for weddings here since there is often heavy fog. The roses are gorgeous and well-preserved in the chilly air. Fall weddings here, however, usually have good weather. When you talk about a March wedding at the beach, you are talking about Georgia or Florida, not the East Coast! |
My son and duaghter-in-law got married at a restaurant in Ft Lauderdale at the end of March.
The ceremony, cocktails and the reception were outdoors along the river with boats passing the whole evening. Passerbys walking their dogs and small children in strollers began to gather on park benches a half hour before the ceremony when they saw the gazebo being prepared. Passing boats had a "honk" for the bride & groom. |
Charleston, SC.

Didn't JFK Jr. get married in a tiny chapel on an island somewhere near South CArolina? I don't remember the name of the place, tho'

Dafuskie Island.
If you want an interesting site, there is a little church on Pawley's Island--white frame building with old theater seats for the seating. The entire back of the church is a glass window that overlooks the wide expanse of the backwater reeds. It is gorgeous if a little funky. The Litchfield Plantation (the real plantation house on the mainland) then has a beach front building just down the road for the reception. Can be quite lovely. |
Ifr you want partying on the beach in March you've limited yourself essentailly to FL - anyplace further north might be OK but can be way too cold in March.
Have you looked at the varoius bridal websites - they should have recos. |
JFK wedding was on Cumberland Island off the coast of GA.

There is a super cute stone church located in N. Hampton or Rye, NH. I believe it's called Union Chapel. It only fits about 50 people. It's right near Fuller Gardens where you could have your reception. It's a beautiful area but may be a bit cold in March.

The average high temperature for Rye NH in March is 46 degrees, not much of a location for a week of partying on the beach, even if they didn't get an average of 4.3 inches of rain that month.
Temperature and precipitation averages are available for almost everywhere in the US at www.weather.com |
I think Myer might be talking about the River House in Ft. Lauderdale. We've been there several times and have seen weddings there. It's quite lovely and the food is delicious.
