Newark

Thanks..I knew I'd get a faster response here than anywhere else!

Definitely Newark, but there is no easy way to get to East Brunswick. Are you going to rent a car? What time of the day? Rt 1 can be brutal, especially during rush hour. ((b))

No need to drive on Rt. 1 from Newark Airport to EB. Just take the turnpike to Exit 9 (Rt. 18). You should rent a car though. The only other way would be to take the train from the Airport to the NJ Transit train & take that to New Brunswick and perhaps get a cab from there, depending on where you're going/staying.

Newark is definitely the most convenient.

IMO, the easiest way to get there from EWR is to take the NJ Turnpike South to exit 9 and then take Route 18. (Get directions from the place you are going, they'll know best).

I agree with Budman, Route 1 is generally traffic filled with many lights. Best to avoid.

I grew up in East Brunswick - can't imagine it's improved much in terms of traffic and such. Learned to drive on Rt. 18 and the traffic there can be a bear also. But I concur that Newark is the best and then take the turnpike to Rt. 9. Say hi to EB for me!

If you dont need to have a car, there is convenient ground transporation in the airport that you can take to the East Brunswick Hilton. It is the "Airporter" shuttle. We have used it many times.

JCASALE - I grew up in EB too. I think you mean the turnpike to Exit 9 not Rt 9!!?? Did you go to EBHS circa 80's?

jcasale Apr 22nd, 2005 11:21 AM

You're right, I did. Yes, I graduated from EBHS, but a bit before you would have been there - 1974. My sister would have been about your age probably, but we moved to Maine right after I graduated. Lived on the corner of Corona Rd. just off Ryders Lane - how 'bought you?

Class of '84. Off of Tall Oaks - behind the library apts! I've been in Manhattan since out of college. My folks are still there.

Small world - eh? I'm out in the Chicago area now. My parents are still in Maine and I haven't been back to Jersey in about 10 years. Bet it's changed a lot! When I took my husband there 10 years ago to see it, I was surprised I could still sort of find my way around.

Well, it is a small world. I'm from Spotswood, living 20 some years in the Caribbean. Went to South River High School, class of 64. I lived for a couple of years on Ryders Lane between the catholic church and what is now, I believe a Walgreens. Used to be a Foodtown or something like that.

By the way, I've used the Airporter many times and find it works well. You can rent from Enterprise if you need a car. I think there's one on Route 18, where I drove the first day I had my driver's license. There was no divider in the middle of the highway, and I crossed several lanes of traffic coming out of McDonald's.
