E.T. Highway
I would like to get a picture next to a road sign on the Extraterrestrial Highway. Does anyone know how far you have to go on the highway before you get to one of the road signs?
I'd be coming in from the eastern side (leaving Utah, through Caliente). |
If what I've read is correct, there should be a sign right at the beginning of the stretch of road designated ET Highway.
If you're coming down Highway 93 (south), you'll turn right on Hwy. 318, and after less than a mile you'll veer left onto Hwy. 375 (which is the ET Highway). At that intersection you will see the "Extraterrestrial Highway" sign under a group of trees. http://www.rachel-nevada.com/ethighway.html |
Thanks!

There is a sign a both ends of the Highway 375 and one in Rachel, NV.

Well, we took the extra hour on the way back to Vegas to see the E.T. Highway. SUCKED!!!!
There was no highway sign that siad E.T., just the route number. We drove about two miles on the road and could see straight down about 10+ miles and there were no road signs in sight. Really sucked. You would think they would have a sign at the start of each end of the road. Well, at least I can say I've been there. Rachel was 41 miles away and didn't feel like doing that round trip. |
It's been a few years but there was a sign at the beginning, Rachel and the other end of the highway. Maybe someone stole it for kicks! :(
{btw...can I say..told ya so: :)...ducking and running ::::::} Utahtea |
My experience with photographing the ET sign:
I took #375 out of Tonopah which turns south toward Caliente and into Utah. My photo was pre-digital circa 2001 but if you wish to see it, I can send it to you. What I prefer to mention here is that I had a once-in-lifetime experience soon after I took my photo of the ET sign. I was traveling back to NM having been thru MT, ID, OR, CA into NV and my map noted, "National Wildlife Management Area." adjacent to the ET Hwy. I knew nothing about the ET Hwy, frankly. BUT, I was accustomed to seeing the roadsigns indicating "Open Range.".....so when I saw an event occuring up the road some distance, I presumed it was cattle crossing the road. I was wrong! As we approached the conflagration ahead, we, (my mixed-breed GShepherd and I) seem to both get goose-bumps at the same time......it was the wild mustangs of the NV desert and to this day, I feel privileged to have seen them. The photo I eventually took after having pulled off the road, opening the hatch to grab my camera & accessories. . . . well, the photo I evetually took is far off even with an Premier Zeiss photo-lens. . . but we were there and I love re-telling this story! It was such a thrill. The herd thundered past and onto the designated "Wildhorse Management Area." But, I saw this.....and can only suggest that if the sign to the ET Hwy tugs at you, perhaps you, too, might have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. But, then again - maybe you don't even like horses! |
That's ok, you don't have to send it. Thanks anyway.
We came in on the other end, 93 via 319 out of Utah. No sign at all, just the highway sign showing 375. Didn't get to see any wild horses during our tour. Did see wild turkey, chipmunks, a snake, plenty of deer and jackrabbits. |
