Durango Rafting Reservations Ute Tour
We will be in Durango on the 19 and 20 of July. We are thinking of taking a partial day rafting trip. Could we make up are mind once we get there, or are reservations necessary?
Another option would be to spend the day at the Ute reservation, feedback on this? We will visit Mesa Verde, staying overnight after leaving Durango. |
What are you planning on seeing/doing at the Ute reservation? There isn't much there; also, there are 2 different Ute reservations, so be sure you end up at the right one if you are really going to go.
As for the rafting, there are many rafting companies in town, so you can "usually" sign up in the morning for an afternoon trip, or the afternoon for a trip the next morning. The water will not be high or fast at that time of summer, so it will be more of a float trip. |
Just to confirm DebitNM comments about rafting. The rafting season, especially in SW Colorado, is nearly over. The water level can be very low and in someways more dangerous since more rocks are exposed. If rafting is still offered you should not have problem of sighing up that day.

Thanks for the info. Think we'll wait until we get to town and decide what to do!

There isn't much there I was being polite, as I can't imagine anything for a visitor to see or do at either Ute Reservation.

One of the Ute reservations has a tour where you follow them in your car to some petroglyph and ruin sites. I think I read about it in one of the Petroglyphs along the way type books. It was a fairly long drive on dirt roads - about 40 miles I think. We opted not to try it so I can't say if it is worth doing.

Sounds like it may be over kill on the petroglyphs, being we'll be at Mesa Verde for 2 days. We may need to just relax after 1 day flying to Denver and then driving to Durango the next. We're staying at Blue Lake Ranch which sounds heavenly!

You'll love Blue Lake Ranch! Have dinner one night at Kennebec Cafe, it is close by and a favorite of our.
