Dupont Circle or Georgetown?

Another vote for Dupont. Georgetown is worth checking out for shopping, drinks or dinner one night, but it's crammed with tourists, noisy, and more isolated transportation-wise than Dupont. he Radisson Barcelo is indeed a great place... and their restaurant, Gabriel, serves without a doubt one of the best weekend champagne brunches on the planet. Make a reservation though - as I recall, they only have 2 seatings and they fill up very fast (for good reason). Also, from that hotel, you are a pretty easy walk into G'Town (about 10 blocks), or a quick cab ride.
Across the street from the hotel is one of DC's best seafood restaurants - Johnny's Half Shell, highly recommended. Also, for an entertaining meal, check out Mimi's American Bistro (also across the street), where the wait staff sings show tunes, opera, etc. in rotation throughout the evening. Food is pretty good too! And if you don't mind paying for it, Obelisk is a phenomenal Italian restaurant on that same block.

G'town, starting at 28th, is perfectly safe. I agree with the idea to stay near Dupont Circle or on M Street about 23/24th, and perhaps hit G'town for dinner one night. Adams-Morgan makes an interesting evening's trip as well, but parking is tough. I do have to disagree about Obelisk ... it may be living on its rep from years ago, and this is from personal experience and that of people very knowledgeable about food. It is expensive, and you can do better in the DuPont area. Asia Nora is worth trying, but Nora seemed a bit lifeless the last time we were there. I'd also check some of the restaurants along 7th Street NW, from the MCI Center down toward Pennsylvania Avenue. They are okay, but deserve a bit of support since they're making an otherwise dark, dismal part of our city liveable. Have a nice visit in DC. Ciao
