Dumbo, GO AWAY!

I was just about to post a reply to a thread and this little Dumbo the Elephant appears up top and flies into the center of the screen. Right here where I am typing. Freaked me out. A flying elephant with a silly green hat. Please fodors.com, make it go away.

Betsy Feb 13th, 2006 08:14 PM

Me too! That dumb elephant is the worst of the worst! I will actively avoid anything Disney. Good grief!

I just got it as I was previewing a new thread I was posting on the Europe board. When I clicked on what I thought would close it, it took me to another web site. How annoying!

I'll never understand why anyone thinks that annoying the heck out of someone is a good way to sell a product!

gail Feb 13th, 2006 08:25 PM

There are 2 ways to get rid of it. One - there is a tiny x/close symbol outside border of the elephant.

The other way is to ask Dick Cheney to come shoot it for you.

mrwunrfl Feb 13th, 2006 08:53 PM

lol, if you choose gail's second option you better hit the deck

AnnMarie_C Feb 14th, 2006 04:36 AM

LOL, gail!!! :-D

ronkala Feb 14th, 2006 04:55 AM

very good Gail, very good.

Oh, so now the skier is out and dumbo is in? Hmm... the skier must left for the Olympic games.

Our slogan for today (thank you Gail)

Dick duck dumbo

And here we thought you'd just love that long, thick trunk!

starrsville Feb 14th, 2006 01:14 PM

What man on a bird hunt EVER goes to retrieve his own birds? That's what dogs are for! Something just ain't right...

Ya think they could come up with a better story after waiting for a day.

suze Feb 14th, 2006 02:32 PM

it is definitely *THE* most annoying pop up yet here in the advertising world of fodors

gail Feb 14th, 2006 02:49 PM

suze - what is the most annoying pop-up, the Dumbo or Dick Cheney or can you not tell the difference?

suze Feb 14th, 2006 02:58 PM

heck i'm with you on that one Gail(!) but try not to get booted off Fodor's for sayin' stuff like that
:-)

AnnMarie_C Feb 14th, 2006 03:03 PM

While it is annoying to be attacked by Dumbo... and Dick Chenney, Dumbo pays the bills here and keeps us chatting for free AND he won't shoot you should you decide to visit him! What a nightmare.

CAPH52 Feb 14th, 2006 05:08 PM

Thanks for the chuckle, gail!

And I understand that Dumbo pays the bills. But I still say annoying the heck out of people is not the way to sell stuff!

gail Feb 15th, 2006 02:16 AM

If I can be serious for one moment - Dumbo has now proven to his employers that he is great advertising. The idea is to make an ad memorable, not necessarily enjoyable. Look at all the talk Dumbo has generated here. And I doubt anyone planning to visit Dumbo has decided not to based on his unwelcome visits.

Thanks for the morning laugh Gail! It goes so well with my morning coffee.

AnnMarie_C Feb 15th, 2006 04:04 AM

Wow, this morning I encountered a similar add on weather.com that features Mickey--it's like playing my GameBoy Advance trying to find the close button before he disappears!
