our hotel is near dulles..trying to get to dc ..found info about bus line to dc or should we take a taxi to the closest train station and go from there?

If you are just there for a day en route to somewhere else, I'd take a taxi into the city and back.

If you are visiting DC for several days, then it's probably best to take the train in each day since it will be considerably cheaper and could save you time, particularly on a weekday. (Of course, Dulles is the world's worst place to base yourself if you are actually coming specifically to visit DC.)

I agree with Doug. I would only stay at a Dulles area hotel if I was flying out the next morning from Dulles.
Reagan National is much better with its' own Metro station and hotels nearby.

It's really just a matter of money and time, your decision.

It isn't clear where you want to go in DC and why.

Bus 5A goes right from Dulles airport to l'Enfant PLaza metro station in the city, which is convenient if you want to sightsee around the Mall.

Or, you can take the bus (Fairfax Connector Bus 983) to the end of the Silver metro line (Wiehle) and take it into the center of the city, you'd have to transfer to get to the red line to Union Station, if that is where you are going.

you could take a taxi to Wiehle or into the city, but you'll pay a lot more even though you'll save a little time. I wouldn't do it as it can be very expensive, but it's just your decision as to money vs. time

Be aware, the distance is far and the taxi fare quite high. It will cost around $70-80 in a taxi. Uber might be less expensive, but according to my Uber calculator, still in the $45-$50 range one way.

did not make reservations so only dealing with what is..seems the bus 5a is the best bet.

Thank you to all for your time and information I do appreciate it
