Duck,N.C. INFO

We are planning on heading to the Outer Banks in mid June.Does anyone have any good recommendations for food and fun in the area? We have 2 boys ages 10 and 13.Also, will the ocean be warm enough to swim in??THANKS!!

Actually, one of the attractions of Duck is the lack of "attractions" - it's a quiet area and that's why people go there. It's basically single family homes spread out along the oceanfront. No "resort" properties, no boardwalk, no loud clubs, no vulgar t-shirt shops. At least not yet......

Oh yes, the water will be just fine. Enjoy.

You'll have a great time. Duck is pretty small - if you want to do mini-golf or other stuff like that you'll have to go into Kitty Hawk or Nagshead. Buy a couple of really good kites in Duck and fly them on the beach. Take a day trip to Jockey Ridge - it's a huge sand dune with hang gliding etc. There is a bike path in Duck now that's pretty good, so if you have room, bring your bikes. Great bird watching on Pea Island (also a bit of a haul). Lots of charter boat fishing in the area - but be wary of seasickness. One of our favorite restaurants is a little far but worth it - Fisherman's Wharf in Wanchese. Still an authentic place versus a tourist trap or chain operation. There's a good restaurant in Duck called Blue Pinte Grill.

Here's a link to restaurants:

Have fun!

Further up in corolla is a minigolf/arcade/go carts which are fun. Water may be a little chilly depending on the currents. Great place to ride bikes too.

You can either purchase there, rent or bring your own boogie boards. The surf is great for that. Rent kayaks, and you will surely rent ski doos, too. As Bardo said, you are going there for the beach.
