DT Chicago-Marriott or Renaissance?

Planning a special overnight getaway in Chicago, have access to both of these properties? Which is the nicest, closest for sights, shopping, restaurants, most recently updated, etc? Thanks a lot for any thoughts as well as great restaurant recommendations a short cab ride away!

I cant comment on the Renaissance, but I wasnt impressed with the Marriott when I stayed there a few years ago. Location is excellent, but hotel is ordinary.

The Renaissance is at the junction of State St. and Wacker Drive, closer to the Loop, theaters, museums and State Street shopping, not lively at night. Opened about 5 years ago. Has nice public areas and good views. Some good nearby restaurants: Bin 36, Trattoria No. 10, Russian Tea Time, Rhapsody, many more!

The Marriot is a big, boxy convention hotel on North Michigan Ave at Ohio Street. Built in the early seventies, recently remodeled. While the hotel is pretty standard, the shopping and restaurants in this area are superior; no need for a cab. However, the two hotels are only a half-mile from each other, so choose whichever makes you more comfortable.

My fiance and I just stayed at thr Rennaisance, using my Marriott points- December 27-29. Our room was fabulous, overlooking the river, with a sumptuos marble bath and all the amenities expected. i much prefer the chrm of a Rennaisance over the Marriott (it's great for business, but not a romantic weekend). Also, there are such great restaurants within walking distance (Petterino's to the south- a very upscale and trendy steakhouse right in the theatre district: Vong to the north- thai and asian cooking in a cool enviornment, as well as many more.
Have a great time!

Renaissance hands down. I've stayed at both. Renaissance has much better service, nice river views and large, tasteful rooms. Location is quiet, but just a couple of blocks off Michigan.

Enjoy!

I live in Chicago. My work Associates all prefer the Renaissance. The Marriott location is a little better, but both are convenient.

There are a million restaurants. What do you like? Greek town is fun. Many restaurants on Rush street. Just ask the concierge. The Lettuce Group of restaurants are good. Best of the best, but expensive and special is Tru.
