Drying underclothes in hotel
 

Other than with a blowdrier, anyone out there, especially the ladies, have an idea how to dry cotton undies while traveling please?

I wash mine at night and throw them over the shower rod.

Dry in the morning.

Bring as many as you will need.

Use the hotel laundry service.

Stay in hotels that have a laundry room.

Don't wear cotton panties - buy some that are quick-drying.

Take as many as needed for the duration of the trip.

The Backwoods Store (and other "outdoor" stores and also available over the internet) sell undies that are lightweight and quick drying. If you can't pack enough clean underware for the duration of your trip and/or if you don't want to use the hotel's laundry service purchase a few pairs and you'll be all set.

Cira, what exactly is the situation you find yourself in? How many days are you traveling for? If you don't mind my asking.

Nylon and microfiber underwear (for women & men) will air dry overnight.
www.jockey.com is but one source. They are great for longer trips.

I find if I wring them (roll them up tight) in my towel, they dry overnight.

I have found that nylon will dry overnight. I do wash mine every evening because I do not like carrying around dirty underpants.

Bring as many as you'll need and if that fails, buy more.

I am going to be perfectly honest. I'm a horrible packer. HORRIBLE. When I travel, at the last minute I remove things, I put things in, I am never happy with what I take or don't take.
I was trying to cut down on the number of "stuff". I know undies is not just "stuff", but I wanted to really CHALLENGE MYSELF to see how few things I could bring and LIMIT MYSELF to what I truly am just going to use. Almost 100% of the time when I get back home, I end up wearing the same clothes 2 days in a row, but UNDIES and underclothes, I want a daily and sometimes twice a day change. I thought washing and wearing would help. I'll be gone 6 days, so I only wanted to take the one I was wearing and three more.

I must wear only cotton unfortunately.

I agree the <i>Jockey, No Panty Line</i> brand are the best for packing and traveling. They are so light weight that they take hardly any room in your luggage and the TacTel fabric dries in about an hour. They make panties, bras and camis. While not cotton, the paties are lined with cotton. These are amazingly comfortable.

I also pack my delicates in a zip lock bag and squeeze out the air to make for a smaller pack.

Cotton, if it's not too heavy, should be fine.

Before my last extended trip, I bought 2-3 pair of 'high tech' underwear, primarily because I understood it would dry quickly after being hand-washed.

It did. However, the experience of wearing it was...unpleasant. Felt a little like wearing cling wrap. Felt slippery and hot.

So! On another more recent trip, I just took along the underwear I usually wear: Light-weight cotton. I found it dried equally quickly as the high-tech stuff, and was much more comfortable to wear.

Two tips:

(1) Wear your undies into the shower with you; take 'em off, and wash them first using the same soap or body wash you'll wash yourself with. (2) Post-shower, wring them as dry as you can, then roll them tightly into a dry towel for a moment. Remove, and hang over the shower rod. Unless where you are is very humid, they should be dry in 2-3 hours, or overnight if you shower before bedtime.

I saw in Walgreens travel cotton panties, maybe these are drying faster?

Agree with Swaymock: wash in the evening, roll in a towel, then wring, should be dry in the morning.

I always pack a bare minimum, and do a quick laundry in the sink at night. Never need to wear anything twice (unwashed).

Have been known to use hair dryer, iron (consider that, but be careful), and .... warning: not to be done without minute-by-minute supervision ... lamps! Drape over lampshade or arrange as close as possible to bulb. Doesn't work if it's an energy-saver bulb, but.... Just keep an eye on it to avoid very embarrassing fire-department involvement.

Cira, I think you can indulge in another 2 pairs without taking up a LOT of space in your rollaboard.

Three ideas for cotton undies:

After washing roll in a towel to get as dry as possible. Depending on climate they will take 2 days to dry.

Find a laundry-matt and do them in a machine and dryer.

Or my best solution, fold neatly and pack them into sandwich sized ziplock bags, squeeze the air out to make neat little packages. Take enough for your entire trip. Simply do not pack 1-2 tops instead and you'll still come out even for space/weight in your suitcase.

Do not use the microwave- trust me on this one (luckily the fire was very small and didn't damage anything besides the undies).

DKNY made a super comfy thong if you can find it- basically three cotton straps (like t-shirt neck) and two triangles. It dries quickly and takes up no space.

I will be in Las Vegas for six days at the end of August. Low humidity, high temps; should
do the trick.

Seriously even if you want two pair a day, how much room can a dozen pairs of undies take up? Especially if you pack them in a ziplock like suggested. Economize in other areas of your packing.
