Dry,wet or windy in New York
 

I know I asked this question a few weeks ago, but we will be on our way to NYC at towards the end of the week so wanted an update on the weather forcast. I understand no one can be accurate, I don't want to be bringing too many of the wrong clothes for a hectic sight seeing 4 days.<BR>Thanks for all your help on other questions I've asked. I've learned a so much about our trip with all your tips. Might need to ask for more tips before we set off so be ready with excellent replies.

As you've recognized, long-range forecasting in thie part of the country is iffy. Plus, you'll be here for 4 days so you'll probably experience a wide range of conditions anyway. No need to bring lots of clothes, just bring layers, including short sleeve shirts, a sweater or two, and a waterproof jacket. And your most comfortable walking shoes.

Right now the forecast for next weekend is mid-50s to mid-60s, partly cloudy and dry. But, you'd better check weather.com right before you go, 'cause no one can really predict weather that far in advance! <BR><BR>If I were you, I'd pack lightweight long-sleeve tops, long pants (definitely no capris or shorts), a lightweight sweater or two and a light jacket that won't get ruined if it rains. Bring comfortable, closed-toed dark-colored shoes.

Dawn - I know you have 'no idea' but have you heard of the Weather Channel and www.weather.com? Don't you trust them?

I sure wouldn't, especially 5 days in advance (i.e., when she's packing for the trip).

Then who would you trust 5 days out, Sam, and why? I could spit on my finger and hold it in the air, but it probably wouldn't be as accurate as someone using state-of-the-art satellites, computer programs and real-time ground reporting stations, now would it?

Thank you Sam, Suzanne & of course Helen. I usually find it's best talking to someone who is from the area I'm travelling to.The weather forcasts tend to differ both on TV & radio depending on which station you listen to. I will now try www.weather & not bother you again Helen.

I always check www.weather.com (no matter where we're going) just before leaving and finalizing my packing. No weather forecast is totally accurate, and I still pack for a bit warmer or cooler (and always consider it might rain, even if not in the forecast), but the forecast gives you a very good idea of what to pack. We're headed to NYC week after next. I plan to take a very warm coat, because you just never know, along with my raincoat (and a blazer that fits underneath). Last June, it was balmy when we arrived at 5PM, but really chilly with gusty (really gusty) winds when we left the restaurant at 10PM. Not only can the weather be quite variable from one day to the next, it often varies throughout the day this time of year. Fall weather could seem more like winter, or you could suddenly get lucky with a spell of Indian Summer.

It has been raining in NYC for the past three days and is in the 50's. Hopefully it will dry out soon and the weather will be better for your visit.

So glad you're coming to visit our fair city... Five days out is tough, but long range - the weather should be turning cooler, much more autumn like than it has been. Donna,<BR>Chances are, you will NOT need that very warm coat. The raincoat will be fine. I walked around in the miserable rain and wind yesterday and I was SO hot in my thigh-length lightweight raincoat (long-sleeve tee underneath). I was sweating. Warm coats (which I interpret as long and wool) are typically not necessary until late November.
