Dry Cleaners
Can anyone give me the name, address and phone number for a dry cleaner's that will wash clothes by the pound and will pick up and deliver near the Le Parker Meridien-57th between 6th and 7th avenues.
|
John, did you read the question? Dana was asking about the ones that charge by the pound. I understand the problem because I have the same question often in Europe. Sure a lot of cleaners will pick up and do your laundry -- let's see 14 pairs of underwear at $3.00 each, 15 pairs of socks at $2.50 each, etc. But it is a lot different to get someone to charge by the washer full or by the pound (or kilo). If there is a lot of laundry (let's say two weeks worth of everything) it could mean the difference between maybe $25 by the pound and $200 by the piece.

If there are such services in NYC who do that, perhaps someone can give the name, address, and phone number of just one. Sorry I can't help you Dana.

Most dry cleaners understand the difference of doing laundry by the pound and dry cleaning. Most dry cleaners offer this service.

Patrick,
I read the question and answered it. There are hundreds of dry cleaners in New York that will pick up and drop off laundry and charge by the pound. They will also do dry cleaning which is a different service. Dana need only arrive at the hotel, take a 10 or 15 minute walk around the neighborhood and choose a dry cleaner, arrange for a pick up and take it from there.

I apologize if I was wrong about New York laundry/dry cleaners. I don't pretend to be an expert on this. My only experience was while renting an apartment at 71st and 3rd Avenue for a month last year. Although there were washers and dryers in the basement of the building, I thought it would be nicer to drop off my laundry. When I enquired at the laundry on 3rd, around the corner which did my shirts and also dry cleaned some slacks, the guy handed me a sheet which itemized the "laundry" prices -- similar to those I mentioned above. They did not offer service by the pound. I just assumed that most were that way.

There's a Chinese laundry on 6th between 55th/56th 212-244-7420 and several others in the "neighborhood" of the Meridien. I have no idea whether they do laundry by the pound (which is the way it's charged where I live), but you could give them a call. If they don't do it, perhaps they know a nearby place that does or can confirm that no one does.

Thanks Donna! I will call the Chinese Dry Cleaner on 6th street after I settle in at the Le Parker Meridien.

Adela, We use the word washateria here in Texas. I guess ya'll use the word laudnromats
