Driving Yosemite to Las Vegas for the faint of heart: advice please!

If you don't really "need" to see Death Valley, you can take a flight from Fresno to LVS on Allegiant Airline (cheap).
I've seen enough of Death Valley to last me a lifetime.
I slept on a picnic table in my underwear with a sheet over me.
It did get down to 90 during the night. My brother got scared of the howling coyotes and went back into the stifling trailer.

Won't kill you to leave the car in Death Valley (breathing the air at that temp is kind of cool, as a brief thing). The side trips into various canyons make it one of my favorite national parks (but in the summer, only very early in the morning). It's only a 2 hour drive to LV from DV. You'd think it was traversing the Sahara on a camel, for heaven's sake!

Happy to report fresh off the Valley that it was actually a very enjoyable trip!! We might have been blessed with cooler temperatures (it was actually 67 degrees as we entered the Valley at 7 30 am today and "only" reached 95 at 9. We got out of the car and enjoyed the scenery and the magnificent silence a couple of times. As to the Tioga Pass, do have to report that it did not have the railing! For about 15 minutes of the trip which made the driver and main passenger somewhat uncomfortable but it was quickly over. The views exiting Yosemite via eastern side and the Tenaya lake were awesome. Full report will follow in due course

Hello - I am doing a similar trip next July - and wanted to know what time did you leave Yosemite and whereabouts did you leave?
What time did you get to your destination - I assume this ended up being Bishop? And then you headed for DV the next morning?
Thanks.

Hi Clare
we left around 2-3pm (Tenaya Lake) and had a reservation in Lone Pines (which was right outside of the Death Valley National Park entrance). I cant remember exactly but it was about 3.5hrs to get to Lone Pines (beware of very spotty cell phone reception). we started the trip around 7 am and made it to LV around noon (did step out of the car a couple of times to take pictures).
