Driving - Yachats to CraterLake, OR

Looking at google map it appears to be about a 5 hour drive from Yachats to Crater Lake. Any suggested detours along the way or places worth stopping? Thanks

I'd take Hwy 38 across to I-5--it's a very scenic route, plus that way you can see the dunes near Florence, and the elk refuge on 38 just east of Reedsport.

Thanks, NWWanderer. I would go rte 38 to rte 138--is that right? Is the elk refuse in Elkton???

If you are into wine tasting- you could come inland at Florence- and just outside of Eugene is King Estate- its a beautiful winery and are open for lunch and dinner

and my favorite beach in the area is just north of Florence - Devils Elbow State Park- Heceta Head lighthouse is there - one of the most photographed-
nice trail up to the lighthouse, nice place for a picnic , definately worth a stop

No, the refuge is just a few miles east of Reedsport.

well if you are into wine tasting-
there are several wineries close to King Estate - Sweetcheeks, Hinman and several others- you could spend most of day there
