Driving Washington, DC to Ashville NC in March

Thinking of driving from Washington DC to Ashvile NC in mid to late March. Considering that Ashville is in the mountains, any idea of weather conditions at that time of year? Supposedly the gardens at the Biltmore are beautiful, but I can't believe that it's not too late for bad weather. Any thoughts. Should we stay closer to the coast instead of the mountains?

In late March it really should be fine. Of course, things can happen but really the weather should be fine. I usually go on my Spring break from school and stay at the Grovepark Inn in late March or early April and I can usually get a day or two in the sun down by the spa. If you want a spa experience you should look at this hotel! Have a great trip. Lots of good food, music, art, and books!

I second Grove Park Inn but Grand Bohemian is nice too. Grove Park Inn is a historic old hotel with great amenities and outstanding views. Asheville is a great city to visit. Be sure to dine at Admiral. Enjoy your visit.

I go nearly every year in Mar. Weather varies but it has generally been pleasant. It is too early for much to show in the gardens, which are splendid. I would suggest you consider Wilmington for a March visit. Welcome to NC!

The annual Festival of Flowers at Biltmore starts in April. It's spectacular:

Perhaps it would be better to go during the Festival of Flowers. Does it get very crowded?

Yes, but it's absolutely worth, IMHO.

If you have the flexibility to go in April during the Festival, yes, do it. Although there are a lot people, it never has been overwhelming in my experience. Asheville is a treat, I feel sure you would enjoy your visit.
