driving to lasvegas

If you think you will have any winter driving problems between Deadwood and Rock Springs, WY, you should consider flying. Allegiant Airline has direct flights from Rapid City to Las Vegas (and Phoenix) once or twice a week. allegiantair.com
Rental cars are cheap in Las Vegas. If you don't want to get far off the Strip, you can use taxi, bus or monorail to get around. Avoid blizzards in Wyoming.

Once you get to I-80 it should be OK...I-15 from Salt Lake City to LV is usually pretty good.
The LV Monorail is useful along the Strip, but remember it runs in back of the hotels and it can be a pretty good walk though the casino to the Strip. The Duce Bus can get you downtown if you want to check out the Fremont Street Experience.

There are chances that weather won't be good for driving and also you can't take any chances as the total distance in journey that you are going to travel is 1400kms approx. So you need to consider weather as a major factor in your journey as it could spoil your holiday. But there is still some time for you to go on your trip and I hope the weather gets better. But if you don't want to take any chances, then don't go for car. Air travel wil be a better option as it will take less time and less hectic than car but could cost you more. So think as per your prefrences and then decide.

Allegiant flies from/to LV / Rapid City on Mondays and Fridays.
If you take the Monday flight and return on the Friday flight it is cheaper than staying a full week.
Allegiant also offers you hotel packages, transport from airport to hotel, show tickets and even tours to the Grand Canyon. The stress of worrying about not being able to drive home is another consideration even if you did drive there in your own car.
When I need to get out of the Oregon snow to Vegas, that's the way I go.
