Driving tips

I need some advice regarding the best way to drive to Colorado from Dallas. Last year we went the Amarillo route. However, there are a lot of stop lights as well as 35 MPH stretches along that route from Dallas to Amarillo. I was wondering if taking I-35 north to OK City and then taking I-40 would be faster since I could drive 70 MPH along most of that route. Let me know if any of you have any suggestions! Thanks!

US287 is still the best route to take despite the stop lights in Wichita Falls. Taking I-35/40 will not save you time or gas.

I second US287.

Since you did not give your CO destination I will also go with the US287 to Amarillo. If you don't want 287 all the way to I70 go east on I40 out of Amarillo to Vega. North on US385 to Dalhart and US87/64 thru Clayton, Raton and then I25 up the east side of the front range. I have found little traffic that way and the roads are good two lane to Raton.

Absolutely take 287. Having lived in that area for 12 years, I'm baffled about the stop light statement. What are half a dozen stoplights compared to going one hundred miles out of your way?

Thanks for the replies! I appreciate everyone's advice.

The stop light thing only had to do with the kids. Everytime we stopped at one they seemed to wake up thinking we were there. After several times, they stayed awake, which made it a really long car ride for them.

We will stick with 287!

Happy travels!
