Driving times needed
 

Does anyone know the approximate driving times from the Grand Canyon Lodge on the North Rim to Lake Powell Resorts in Page and also from Canyon de Chelly to Sedona? Thanks so much.

You can get answers to Q's like this on www.mapquest.com under 'directions' ... here's what Mapquests give for your queries:

GC north rim to Page: 2 hrs 33 min, 138 miles

Chinle (just outside Canyon de Chelly) to Sedona 4:09, 241 miles

The Mapquest times are a little bit conservative if you drive like most of the rest of us :)

Thanks so much. I had trouble getting any of the mapping/directions sites to recognize the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Had the same problem (they work best with a specific street address) ... I think I typed "Grand Canyon National Park" and it came back with 3 or 4 differnt spots (airport, south rim, north rim, visitor center) and I was able to select the one for the north rim ... but I agree, it's a problem getting it to recognize some of the parks :)

Just watch your speed when driving anywhere on the Navajo reservation. Their highway patrol is very strict.

It cannot be over-stressed. We made a hefty contribution to the Navajo's finest.

You're usually OK if you drive 5-7 miles over the limit outside the towns, say a bit over 60 mph if the posted limit is 55 ... at least that's what the friendly officer who pulled me over for doing 68 in a 55 mph zone told me (after giving me a warning ticket). He said 11 mph over is the trip point on the radars ...

Just curious, how fast were you going and what was the posted limit (just testing the 5-7 mph over thesis). :)

Once you get into Page and the surrounding area, just stick to the speed limit, especially between the town and the resort. The speed limit on the bridge crossing the Colorado River is 25 miles an hour. During the four days we spent in area, we saw a police car there every time we crossed, which was several times a day. They also patrol the area around Wahweap frequently. My son has been working there for the summer, and he says there are 5 law enforcement agencies in the area, and they all write tickets for speeding. Several coworkers told him that even 5 mph over the limit can get you a ticket.

We did the drive between Page and GC North Rim. Bill H's times sound about right, but allow some extra time to stop to see things and take pictures along the way. We stopped at Horseshoe Bend (just outside of Page) and the Vermillion Cliffs (near Lee's Ferry) on the way to GC. On the way back, we saw a ton of wildlife, especially around Jacob's Lake, so it took longer because we were constantly pulling off the road.
