Driving Time from Las Vegas to Zion and Bryce

About how long will it take to drive from the Las Vegas airport to Zion, and then from Zion to Bryce?

Utahtea Dec 12th, 2002 10:31 PM

It's 170 miles from the Vegas Airport to Zion National Park. Most of the drive is on Interstate 15 so it's a fast drive. It will take around 3 hours to get to Zion entrance. I hope you plan on touring around Zion instead of just driving though.

From Zion to Bryce is 86 miles but it's a lot slower driving. It will take you about 2 hours if you don't make any stops. As you leave Zion and drive up through the Zion tunnel you might want to stop on the other side of the tunnel to see the Checkerboard Mesa or Red Canyon just before you get to Bryce. This is a very scenic area and I hope you have time to enjoy it.

Utahtea

I'm interested in flying into Vegas for one day/night, renting a car and driving to Zion and Bryce for a few days, and back to Vegas to fly home. Is it possible to do this trip in one week? Is it possible to add a day or two and add the Grand Canyon to the mix? Also...would like to stay at Marriott hotels for a few days because I have points for free rooms. Is there a Marriott property that fits into this wish list? Thanks! Jaci

It's totally possible to do Vegas/Zion/Bryce in your timeframe. I've done it 3 times, in trips of 5 days, 6 days, and 7 days in length. It would be easy to throw in the North Rim too because of its proximity to Bryce, but the South Rim? Forget it. That's like adding on a side trip to Los Angeles - too far! Keep in mind that the North Rim is closed Nov-Apr. No Marriots are in the immediate vicinity of southern Utah parks. Why don't you look at their website for locations?

jaci -Plan to stay in Zion for 2 nights, 3 in Bryce. With 1 night in LV, there is your week.

You can easily do Zion, Bryce and North Rim (if open) in one week.. You will not find any Marriott properties at any location . . The best you will find near Bryce is a Best Western. Best Western can also be found in Springdale near Zion.

One full day at Bryce and two at Zion will give you plenty of time to explore these parks. Depending on how much hikng you plan on at Zion will determine how long to stay. I would also recommend staying in springdale. It is at the entrance to Zion. Very few accomodations near Bryce.

Thank you all for your help. I think I have my trip mapped out and am looking forward to it. Planning to stay in Springdale at Flannigan's Inn. Looks to be a good place! Thanks again!

Stayed at Flannigan's Inn Nov. 2001 - loved it. Wished we had longer (2 nights only). Zion is so beautiful and varied. HAve a great trip.

Jaci: Are you aware you can stay at the Zion Lodge within the park itself? We spent two nights in a cabin there last month and it was great! I've got some pictures of both parks at http://community.webshots.com/user/bookhall . Check the albums at the bottom. When the weather's better, you can stay in Bryce, as well.
