Driving the scenic loop road in Monument Valley, Utah
How bad/easy is it to drive the 17-mile scenic loop road in Monument Valley? I will be driving a rented Ford Edge (mid/large-size SUV). If possible, I would prefer to drive on my own instead of taking one of the jeep tours. And we will be staying at the View Hotel - so in any case we will need to get inside the valley in our own car. Any inputs will me much appreciated. We will be going there this coming week. Thanks.

We did it two years ago in June in a rental car (mid sized Hyundai). You should be fine.

We've done it a couple times--once in a Honda Civic.

capecod73, HTtY: Thanks for your responses. And great to know that you were able to do it in smaller cars - I think then I should be able to do it with the SUV.

Doesn't really matter but the Valley is in Arizona.

I did it in a rented KIA Sportage and was fine.
If you can manage to do it in late afternoon, the lighting is wonderful, just before the shadows set in. |

I agree. I would say the experience is magical except that when I used the word "magical" here a few years back somebody ridiculed me for it. HTtY |
Do be aware that in the unlikely event that there has been rain, driving that road would not be advised.
There is a grade as you enter the loop road and if it has been a while since it was graded you will need to hang on. |
