How about Sandusky, Ohio. Isn't that where Cedar Point and Kings Island are? I wonder if the parks will be open then?

Cedar Point opens May 4th. Not sure of Kings Island but I am betting it's around the same time. Check out the Cleveland area: Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Science Museum, Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. In Dayton, Air Museum, definitely worth a trip. You can even get in one of the WWII planes. Columbus-Check out COSI (science museum) Easton Town Center, Columbus Zoo, Franklin Park Conservatory has a butterfly exhibit, Columbus Zoo. Toledo has a Van Gogh exhibit until June. For more info call 1-800-Buckeye.

There are dunes--actually a national park--along Lake Michigan--in Indiana that are great fun to run up and down. There are also many little resort cities up along the Michigan side of Lake Michigan. I grew up in Ohio and Cedar Point has always been a premium amusement park--but I have not been there since I was a kid. I do recommend the ferry to Port Huron/Catawba Island--the ferry ride is fun, the island is little with a winery and small restaurants and bikes I think. Pt Huron is a nat memorial as well. Sea World is in Ohio south of Cleveland in Ohio. Lake Erie had some very large beaches in Mentor Headlands east of Cleveland.

It will likely be coooooold on the beaches anywhere in this area. The dunes in IN and all up the Lake Michigan shore in Michigan are fun, but this year we're still having temperatures in the 20s during the day with wind chills probably near zero on the beaches.

Henry Ford museum in Dearborn (outside of Detroit) is fun for kids. They also have Greenfield Village, but it's outside. I'm not sure how much is open in the winter/early spring, or how enjoyable it would be in the cold.

Detroit has a science museum also, and a decent zoo. The Tigers, I think, have started their schedule already or will soon. If your spring break is on the later side (nearer end of April) then you might enjoy a game.

Ann Arbor (about 45 minutes from Detroit) has a hands-on museum and a natural history museum with a decent dinosaur exhibit (nothing like Chicago, but not bad). Also a planetarium at the natural history museum. If any of your kids (or you) are football fans, you can often get inside University of Michigan's football stadium for a peak, and it's pretty amazing even when empty.

But in truth, there are tons of wonderful activities for families all over the midwest. Are you planning to cover all those states, or pick one and focus on it? Will you ever come back to this area (when the kids are older), or is this it? What interests do your kids (and you) have? And where are you coming from? If you are coming from a warm area, planning outdoor activities for this time of year in this area would be not the best idea, though it should warm up by mid- to late-April if your spring break is not till then.

Too funny mikesmom! I wonder if goklw's computer had one of those infamous fodors glitches when all the threads that show up are from long ago. It happens to me occasionally.

Good catch!
