When are you doing the drive and what are your interests? Any children in the group or persons with physical limitations?

Ashville would be just about the first night. You do know you're headed pretty far west for this. How many nights do you want to use to get to Washington.
And Ashville is close enough to the BRP to be "on" it. Just outside of town.
How much time do you want to spend on the parkway (at 35 MPH) and what would you like to see.

Asheville is about 4-5 hours from Savannah. The Biltmore House is worthwhile; downtown Asheville has some nice shops in a pedestrian only part of town. It's a beautiful town.

I drove the BRP last Oct. The following website will send you a free guide and map. I found it to be very useful in helping me plan my trip.
