Driving San Francisco to Santa Rosa area

We'll be arriving SRO mid-week about 2 pm and driving to somewhere in the Santa Rosa area. Google tells us to take 101 all the way through the city and across the bridge.

Just wondering if this is the best route or would it be less traffic and more efficient to go 380>280>1>GGBridge and then 101.

We want the easiest least traffic route.

Take 101.

Where is the SRO in San Francisco? If it's on the west side of the city, you could consider taking the route you suggested, but otherwise I'd stick with 101. It's the easiest route through the city for someone not used to the area.

I live near SFO. At that time of day, I'd pbly just take 101 as suggested, although any other time we take the other route.

Oops, sorry, I meant SFO.

On the return, we'll be coming down from the Redding/Chico area to an airport hotel on a Tuesday. Google suggested 5>505>80>Bay Bridge>101 and said 3 1/4 hr or 4 in traffic. Again, to avoid major commuter traffic, what time should we plan to arrive at our hotel? DH commuted for too many years in NJ traffic and just hates it. Don't want to spoil the last day of vacation. BTW this will be in the fall after schools are back in session. I know that makes a huge difference in our area.

That route from Redding is correct. Hum, you would have to arrive before 3 p.m. or after 8 pm.
