Driving Oakland to Groveland-Yosemite

We are flying into Oakland on a Wednesday afternoon and by 3:00 p.m. we will be driving to Yosemite for 3 days. We have all our reservations. I thought it would take 2 1/2 hours to get to our B & B 12 miles outside the park. Is this unrealistic? Thanks for your reply.

It is possible to get there within that time frame but it will probably take longer due to traffic at that time of day.

Be sure to check out the Iron Door in Groveland. A fun place with good music (OK, probably the only music in the area) most weekend nights. The menu's a step up from most pub fare, too. Also, don't be tempted to take the "short cut" up Priest's Grade - the views from the gentler route are pretty amazing.

You'll have to suffer the commuter traffic eastbound on I205 from Hayward to Tracy. Beyond that it should get better.

Hey!!! We always take the short cut up the old priest grade. Way shorter and I get car sick so the less time on a winding road the better!!

I did this drive at about the same time from the airport and it was very slow for the first hour+. I would not count on 2 1/2 hours.

Thank you all for responding. After realizing we would be in the beginning of rush hour traffic, we have decided to stay at the Marina Inn (in San Leandro) and start out to Yosemite the next morning. It sounds like we will be going in the least travelled direction by 9:30 a.m. I want to enjoy the ride--not be reminded of home. Thanks for your help!
