Driving Miami to Key West
We are leaving for Key West tomorrow. Do you have any information on interesting sites from Miami to Key West?
|
We have a second home in Miami and have done the drive a number of times. There is not a whole lot to see. There is Pennekamp State Park as well as diving sites and restaurants in Key Largo. After you get past this area and Islamorada it is just a straight drive through single lane roads with water surrounding you. A bit of advice, do not do this drive when you are tired, especially at night. It is tough to stay awake when you have nothing to look at but a lot of blue water - pretty but it does lull you to sleep. Have a great time.

Johnny, you didn't mention what time of the day you will be driving from Miami to Key West--and that could make a difference in your drive time. Just the drive down can be pretty--and pretty hairy with all the traffic. Drive the speed limit on Big Pine--they cherish their Key Deer. If you have time, take a side trip there to look for them. They are darling little deer--and protected. We never stop to see much, just head on down to Key West to see our daughter who has lived there since '77. I still find the view awesome. Have fun!

You can stop at Bahia Honda State Park, the beach is absolutely beautiful. It is on the other side of the 7 mile bridge.
