driving LV to LA in August

As part of a 10 day road trip at the end of August (Zion, Bryce, Page, Grand Canyon, LV, LA) I'll be driving from LV to LA on a Sunday evening. When is the best time to leave LV to avoid the heat and the traffic? Someone told me to leave at 4:00 AM on Monday. Do you agree? I'd actually prefer to leave on Sunday, even if it's late. Also, what's the best route to Beverly Hills? It's impractical to fly, as we're a family of five.

I remember doing the same trip!! We left LV at night. It will probably take you about 4hrs to LA. I would leave around 9pm on sunday and get to LA by 1am. Check into your hotel and you will be good to go for monday morning.

nighttime, early morning is a good idea. Bring sure to bring plenty of water. We drove from Ca. to LV in July once and our car overheated.

Sunday afternoon and evening is when there is the most traffic with all the Southern Californians returning home.

So now my husband is thinking it's best if we leave at 5:00 AM Monday. If we leave at 5:00 AM are we going to get swamped with LA rush hour traffic?

You may catch the end of the morning commute but probably not too bad. You'll also have the sun at your back, a good thing.

Most direct route is I-15 to I-10, then whichever exit gets you closest to your address in Beverly Hills.
