Driving into Boston on a Weekday

My wife and I plan to tour the State House in Boston - it is the soul purpose of our visit as we are on a venture to tour all 50 of them. I got a response back from the State House visitors center that we can be assured that parking (although expensive) would be available at the Boston Common Garage. Now I need to know if it advisable to drive into the city mid-morning and out mid-afternoon on a Tuesday. The other alternative I guess would be to take the train into the subway from somewhere further out. Any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

You don't say when you're coming to Boston, or from what direction, but you should be fine driving in mid-morning and leaving mid-afternoon. The Boston Common Garage will be easy to find and the most convenient for you.

If it is a Tuesday after a Monday holiday you may run into more traffic but nothing huge. If you don't want to drive you can check www.mbta.com and find a convenient station on your route. Park St. Station will be the stop you want.

After the morning rush hour is over (about 10), driving into Boston should not be a problem. Leaving before the evening rush (before about 3:30) should also not encounter much traffic.
What an interesting idea for a trip. Have fun.

I'd take the T - driving in boston, traffic or not, can be very crazy....why spend lots of money for a parking garage when you can buy a ticket, sit back, relax and save some $$ and if you decide to stay longer in the afternoon, its ok - the trains run all the time!

CE, Equestrian, cmeyer54. Thanks for your response regarding driving into Boston, I now have a good comparison to the train option.
Equstrian, yes we are enjoying this venture to visit the capitols. We are doing that through several separate trips; on this one we will do 7 in the northeast which will put us at 42 having been visited.
Thanks again, Jim

hi genoajim, I've toured the State House in Boston but it's the only one I've visited. I hope you get to go out on the balcony as there's a great view.

Enjoy!
