Driving from Zion to S. Lake Tahoe

I'm not sure which route to take from Springdale to S. Lake Tahoe (Stateline) and where to spend the night along the way. We don't like to drive more than 7-8 hours per day and prefer great scenery, even if the overall drive time is a bit longer. If we stop in Vegas, how long would we be driving each day?

If you leave Springdale and go to Highway 15 (north toward Cedar City), you can take Highway 50 across Nevada to Lake Tahoe. It is known as "The Lonliest Highway" but there are others far lonelier. It's more scenic than other routes, and you could stop at an interesting National Park where there are relatively few visitors, Great Basin National Park. Take a tour of Lehman Caves there or drive to the top of the park and take a hike - Fantastic views in this park. It's a good idea to plan your stops carefully on this route (Hwy 50) for gas and food. We usually eat dinner in Eureka (great food at a funky looking bar - can't remember the name). There is a motel there but we usually stay in Fallon. Check your map.

The drive from Springdale to Las Vegas is about 2 1/2 hours. If you go that way, choose a highway that will take you over to Highway 395. Head North on 395 to Minden and take Kingsbury Grade or Highway 50 into Tahoe.
