Driving from Springfiled, Ill to Cedar Rapids, Iowa
 

Are there any must sees between Springfield, Ill. and Cedar Rapds, Iowa. Any advice for what to see and do in Cedar Rapids? Thanks in advance for any help.

If you want to get off of 74 for a short time, drive east at the Woodhull exit, to Bishop Hill. It is an old Swedish settlement. Haven't been there in a long time, but folks coming to visit us from Sweden in October want to include it on their itinerary.

Drive this route alot (from central Iowa to Peoria). If you are not in a hurry drive HWY 30 (Lincoln Highway) you will go through lots of little nice towns. If you have time, and if you can't --make time to go to Mount Vernon (it is only about 30 miles). Great restaurant on Main Street--Lincoln Cafe. Get reservations!!!! Can bring your own wine or buy from wine shop a couple of doors down. If you buy from the wine shop you save the corking fee. If you don't you can window shop or if the shops are open go in. Drawing a blank for the street name, but just around the corner there is an artist's shop that does metal sculptures that will take your breathe away and make you wish you brought a bigger vehicle.

Well, interesting in that Spfld is my home town and we will be in C. R. for a high school reunion next week. Bishops Hill is one possibile pause and the Mississippi River is a sight to see but not much else except corn fields. I would recommend the Amana Colonies, a collection of towns southwest of C. R. We'll be dining ourselves at the Ox Yoke Inn and you will enjoy shops and restaurants in the little towns. Oh yes, birthplace of Herbert Hoover just east of Iowa City is a worthwhile stop.

Have to check the map but perhaps in you go north into Wisconsin you could go to the House On The Rock. Then west to Iowa and Cedar Rapids.
