Hi Youngtom

Have you thought about a route yet? You could go 1 or 101 or even 5 out of SF If you go the costal route you have to make a decision just north of Crescent City 101 or 199. You can cut over at Newport to Eugene if your on 101. What is your budget? If this was me I go 1 up to Ft Bragg stay the night then to Eureka then to Bandon then Eugene lots to see.

Have Fun

Hi youngtom2910

I was at a wedding in southern humboldt county last weekend and a number of the out of the area people raved about the Benbow Inn, it is near Garberville you could stay there instead of Eureka.
This place in Bandon has some places with nice ocean views, we have stayed there several times. http://www.sunsetmotel.com/

If I was staying in Eureka I think I would stay at either the Red Lion or the Eureka inn both are full service motels with bar/resturants/pools. Although the inlaws like the holiday inn express
I have not stayed in ft bragg for 7 years so I do not know how things are down there, we used to stay at a motel just above the Noyo river at the south end of town and enjoyed it.

Have Fun

From SF take 101 to Eureka-- it will take ABOUT 5 hrs.--lodging sugestions from other posters are great- I prefer the Red Lion--nice restaurant. Then about 4-4 1/2 to Bandon---beautiful scenery, mostly 2 lane highways with passing lanes.
Sunset Motel overlooks ocean and you can get down to the beach and walk forever!!! HOWEVER between Eureka and Crescent City are coastal Redwoods groves that are awesome!!! You have got to ge out of your car and walk among them!!
The reason I "skipped" Fort Bragg is because of "time" If you drive north on 1 from Bodega Bay for instance it i will take about 3 hrs.to get to Fort Bragg. (maybe a little less-its been a long time since I traveled that route)
Then you have the choice of getting over to 101by going 22 miles over a slow mountainous road with lots of curves to Willits
OR going north on 1 to Leggett which is longer and twistier than the road to Willits. If I had to choose between either one of these routes--I'd go 1 and get to 101 @ Leggett. (scenery is better and when you get to 101 you are at least closer to Eureka.
Going up the coast to Newport is the only way to go!!! At Newport you can cross over to Eugene---excellent road.. As you can tell am totally sold on the Calif - Oregon Coast.
Hope you have a great trip..
Don't forget sweat shirt and wind-breaker as the coast is usually cool and lots of wind..
