Driving from Seattle to San Fran
 

Hello, I am trying to drive with 3 friends from Seattle to San Francisco in 2 days. I know that's a short amount of time but we will not stopping for sight seeing or anything along the way. Of course we will be stopping for food and such but no long breaks, Where should we stop for the night after 6 hrs driving the first day? Also, any suggested routes to avoid bad traffic?

Probably closer to seven, but look at Roseburg, OR.

With two days and wanting to limit yourselves to six hours the first day, you probably should just suck it up and stay on I-5. The only potential traffic areas are in the Tacoma/military areas (south of central Tacoma) and around Portland. I prefer the I-205 bypass around Portland, but others like I-5/I-405 through downtown. Probably I'd pay attention to radio traffic reports as I approached the I-5/I-205 junction north of Vancouver WA.

Going via the coast adds around 2 - 2 1/2 hours to the total drive time. If interested, I-5 south to Oregon SR38 near Cottage Grove, then out to the coast and US 101 thereafter. Coos Bay would be around six hours going that way, but the next day would be 8+ hours. More scenic and interesting, of course.

No question I-5 is quicker. We did Eugene to Sacramento in a day, took about 8 hours straight down I-5.
If you want to add a little time and scenery, take US 199 out of Grants Pass to Crescent City and then down US 101. Probably add about 90 minutes.

Roseburg is the the right place to stay after 5 1/2-6 hours of driving. However, since there is not much of interest to us in Roseburg (Grants Pass or Medford), we usually drive on Ashland, enjoy a walk around town, get up early the next day, and arrive in San Francisco in time for a late lunch.

If you have an extra 1 1/2-2 hours, boom_boom's routing from Grant's Pass is scenic all the way to San Francisco.

Medford is the largest city just north of Ashland. Good stopping place after leaving Seattle and plenty of hotels and the like. Ashland is a nicer stop but far fewer options on lodging/eating. Medford, according to Google, is 7 hrs from Seattle and then another 5+ on to SF. Enjoy
