My husband used to wind surf at the Gorge (I sat on the shore)... so I feel like I've been there. I'll offer up both the Gorge and Silver falls to the peanut gallery and see what they say...

Portland is by far our favorite stop on I-5 between Seattle and Ashland.

On a two day trip I would go the scenic way via Snoqualmie Pass, Yakima, and the Simcoe Mountains, spending the night in the lovely town of Hood River. I would then drive to Ashland via Bend or the Columbia River Gorge and I-5.

Another favorite drive is to spend the night on the Oregon Coast at Cannon Beach or Newport and to then drive to Ashland on 101, 38, and I-5. (Highway 38 follows Umpqua River.)

Hi there! We were just in Ashland this past Sat., had a nice lunch at Lark's, enjoyed ice cream there and browsed through a bookstore. We made a stop at Rogue Creamery in Central Point where I would suggest you try, excellent blue cheese there! We also like to wine taste at Willamette Valley Vineyards, the views are very pretty from the outdoor terrace there. :)

The suggestion for Cannon Beach is a good one, nearby Seaside where I am is also fun, your kids will have fun in Seaside. There is also the Wildlife Safari Park in Winston. If you go to Portland, the Oregon Zoo would be a fun way to spend some time. We were just at the Rose Gardens this past Sun. after a stay at The Benson. Have fun! ***kim*** ((#))
