Driving from Savannah to Key West - need help!
Hello:
We'll be driving from Savannah to Key West in October 2013. We'd like a stopping point about midway for one night. I know Orlando is about midway but we have no interest in visiting the attractions there. We'd like to skip it totally as we're interested in a quaint small beach town. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Carol |
"we're interested in a quaint small beach town" Then consider Cocoa Beach. Not so sure I would call it quaint, but it is on the quiet side and not overly commercial and the beach is beautiful there. It is not far off of I-95 either.

It's been years since I was there, but you might try Sebastian or Vero Beach. By all means stick to 95 and avoid Orlando, which is well off your track, and source of all the evil.

Check out Vero Beach. A nice place and almost exactly half way.
|
I'm not sure the exact dates of your trip, but you should be aware that Fantasy Fest takes place in Key West from October 18 through October 27th. It's the busiest time of the year there, and accommodations will be difficult to get, and prices will be hiked.
This is just an FIY...hope you have a great trip! |
Depending on what you're looking for:
Cocoa Beach Melbourne Beach Vero Beach I would say Mlb Beach more fits the bill for a "quaint, small beach town." No high rises, not too touristy, mostly residential. |
Just curious as I live just north of Savannah and drive to Lauderdale in 7 hours as family lives there. I would think getting to the keys very easily done in one day unless you just are not up for a few hours more then that.

The distance is 650 miles. Orlando is not half way there, believe me.

Thanks for all the great information.
Unfortunately, we've had to cancel this part of our trip due to timing but I'll keep this for the future! Carol |
