Driving from Phoenix to LA
Just wondering roughly how long it takes to drive from Phoenix to LA. Any must-sees along the way? Other advice/suggestions/thoughts?

Thanks

Palm Springs/Palm Desert are off of the I-10 and a nice place to stop on the drive along the way. Another option might be to make a side trip over to Joshua Tree.

Roughly it is 7-8 hrs long.
Must sees: the ROAD as the trip is generally BORING.

I drive it a lot and it takes six hours to the edge of LA. Stop in Palm Springs on the way.

Thanks. I'll look forward to the drive and plan to stop in Palm Springs. 6-8 hours ain't bad.

What could/should one do in Palm Springs during a quick stop-over (a couple of hours max)? Is there a quintessential P.S. experience that shouldn't be missed?

My comment has to do with why you should drive, in spite of it being boring! I just returned from Tucson, and I flew from Orange County airport. Phoenix would have been slightly easier, as there are more direct flights, but between arriving early, changing planes, allowing for security checks and renting a car when I arrived, I would have been MUCH better off driving. I came to the same conclusion when I did drive to SF earlier this year.

If you have the opportunity to stop in Palm Springs or Joshua Tree, those are great ideas. But don't hesitate to drive straight through if you're forced to-- it may not take all day, and at least you're not cooling your heels in the airport.
