Dream Destinations in USA
Are there any places in USA that are rarely visited but really worth a visit? I like travelling such unique places which can force me to say "Awesome, Awesome and Awesome". So can you all travel lovers suggest me such places that will make my day. But excluding Scranton and New York, coz I am very much familiar with those cities.

Rizzo0904 is completely correct -- walk for 20 minutes on a seldom used trail in just about any national park, and you'll feel like you're the only person on the planet.
This is particularly true when you go to national parks and monuments that are less famous than others: Theodore Roosevelt, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Chiracahua, etc.

Lassen National Park in northern California, North Cascades Nat. Park in Washington, Isle Royal Nat. Park in the middle of Lake Superior and the previously suggested red rock country of the southwest.

Bobmrg is sending you in the right direction.
Some of the places that make my jaw drop are Rocky Mountain NP, the Grand Canyon, Zion NP, Yosemite, the Pacific Coast Highway, the redwoods, and Route 66 between Kingman to Oatman, Arizona.

Have you been to Watkins Glen?
Have you driven or taken the bus or train from NYC to Albany? If it were in Germany, tourists would overwhelm it.
How about following the Connecticut River on secondary roads from its mouth at New London to its source at the Canadian border? Go up on the east bank and back on the West Bank.
Drive the length of Vermont on unpaved roads.

Here are a few - http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/tabid/743/Default.aspx http://www.pineislandchamber.org/ http://www.nps.gov/deva/index.htm http://www.visitmaine.net/tourthecoast.htm I tend to prefer 'off the beaten path' destinations, although they are getting harder & harder to find..

Can you clarify what you're looking for? Rarely visited is clear, but then you reference New York....surely that is not a city that someone would recommend as rarely visited but you felt the need to specifically exclude it?
Some of the suggestions given are quite heavily visited.

Grand Canyon is the most awesome thing I've ever seen, but is very heavily visited.
Mount St. Helens is not that visited--in fact when we were there, it was creepy to be in the middle of that devastated landscape with no one around-- and reveals the awesome power of nature.

There are definitely some lesser known areas in even the heavily visited destinations. Shoshone Point in the Grand Canyon is pretty easy to access but it's nowhere near as well-known as the major viewpoints right along the main road.
So I guess my question is: are you looking for areas where the whole place is lightly visited or are you interested in finding lesser known areas within major destinations?
