Driving from Orlando to New Orleans

Where we would you stay for two nights between New Orleans and Orlando? We will be driving from Orlando to New Orleans and then back again. We have got two nights each way. Thought perhaps beach one way and then town another. Would really appreciate any advice.

For beaches, go south from I-10 to Destin/Sandestin area. Not sure which town you'd be interested in for the other night. Fairhope is very clean and pretty, Mobile has lots of history, and the Mississippi Gulf coast could use your tourist dollars. Have fun, and please post a trip report on your return!

Should have added that we make that trip in a day, if you're up to a long drive. It would also allow you another day in the New Orleans area if you need it.

Thanks for that. Had thought about stopping off in Tallahassee. What do you think? How long does it take from Orlando to New Orleans? I have read that it takes about 9/10 hours, but you know in reality...Thanks again

The trip has always taken me about 10 hours. It takes almost eight hours just to get out of Florida and then it seems very quick after that. The very first of the Panhandle beaches will be six to seven hours into the trip because they're almost one hour south of I-10.

Personally I would do it in one day to wake up in New Orleans!

Yogibear,
If you click on my name and scroll down to a post titled Northern Florida, I have listed a number of things to do in and around Tallahassee.

Personally, I'd want to get past Tallahassee, just seems to close to Orlando, too far from New Olreans. But as I said, we'd make the drive in a long day. We can do it in 12 hours even going into restaurants, gas and potty breaks, etc. So if you don't have little ones, you could make it in under 12 . . . plus there's the time change, which is psychological, yes, but does make a difference.

I wouldn't want to stay overnight just to break up the trip unless I had to or if I had beach plans too. JMO.

Good luck with the planning!
