Driving from Orlando Florida to Louisiana
 

Hi,

I plan to take a road trip from Orlando, Florida to somewhere in Louisiana early next year with my father in law. I'm thinking it would be a 5 day trip but I am willing to add a few days if needed.

My father in law lives in Miami and his hobby is fishing. So I am trying to map a route that would hug the coastline from Florida to Louisiana and stop in various areas where fishing is good or the culture or landmarks are special and warrant stopping. I'm willing to deviate from the coast if the landmark, history, or beauty of an area are exceptional.

I don't expect to stay in any particular area more than 1 night but would do so if it was worthwhile.

Additional areas of interest would be music or similar festivals that could be along the way and we want to take it slow and enjoy the natural scenery.

If you have any suggestions that you can pass along, I would appreciate it.

Sounds like a great trip - but the timing concerns me.

Are you talking about a TOTAL of 5 days?
"Hugging" the coastline means you are not necessarily going by interstate - which means it will be slower going. And if you plan to stop along the way to fish or whatever - I really don't see how you can make it from Orlando to Louisiana and back in 5 days. Well, I guess you could...but it wouldn't be much fun.

Okay - I'm a New Orleans gal - so am partial to Louisiana - but Florida has great fishing, so what it is he/you are looking for that is different?

If you're looking to do the whole Cajun fishing/food/music thing (definitely something worthwhile)....wouldn't it make more sense to fly to New Orleans and rent a car?

If the weather is good, pick a charter or party boat and enjoy yourselves.
The highway south of I-10 that hugs the coast in many places is US 90.

Check out Fishing with the King. My brothers go fishing with him all the time.

Thank you for your help. I should have mentioned that we intend to drive to Louisiana in a rental car and fly back so hopefully 5 days will be enough.

I do not yet know enough about the different type of fishing offered along the Gulf Coast as compared to what Miami and the Florida Keys has to offer. My goal is to tie fishing into a road trip even if the fishing isn't entirely different from what my father-in-law has done before. I would like to fish on a bayou though because I believe it will be a different experience than Florida ocean fishing.

I have driven this route (and more) on a business trip, but that's no fun at all. Would be interesting indeed to be able to stop and enjoy the coast and fishing.

I would bet the Pensacola/Mobile area would be good fishing--and it IS good eating seafood.
The nice thing about this trip would be it will be gulf fishing--maybe a bit different.
