Driving from Orlando, Fl to Austin, TX

We are driving from Orlando, FL to Austin, TX via Savannah, GA, Nashville, TN, Memphis, TN, Dallas and Austin, TX

I would like some suggestions for the best sites to take in enroute through these cities. Also, any other route suggestions are welcome. We plan to return to Florida driving the Gulf Coast. We plan to leave Florida Oct 8 and be back in Florida by Nov 3rd, however we want to spend 14 days in Austin, TX (oct 14 to 29). Any suggestions for festivals in all these areas during those dates would be welcomed as well. We are open to any suggestions that would make our trip better.

Day 1 Orlando-Savannah 5 hours
Day 2 Savannah
Day 3 Savannah-Nashville 8 hours
Day 4 Nashville
Day 5 Nashville-Memphis 3:45 hours
Day 6 Memphis
Day 7 Memphis-Dallas 8 hours
Day 8 Dallas
Day 9 Dallas-Austin 3 hours

You only have 6 days, though I did leave you time for one toilet break per driving day. If you need to eat, buy gas, or use the toilet twice, it will take you longer.

Many of these roads have horrible traffic (Orlando-Savannah, Atlanta area) or are very boring (Nashville-Dallas).

I think you need to rethink this.

Ackislander's got the best route I can think of with those plans. Nashville-Memphis is a quick enough drive that that part won't be too bad, but the other drives are long stretches (and as he mentioned, getting between Savannah and Nashville will potentially be a bear).

If you have the ability to take even an extra day or two, I think you'll be glad. There are some things along your route that might be interesting (eg, the Clinton Library in Little Rock, or a detour to Hot Springs, AR), but you won't have any time at all with your current plan.

Thank you both for your response. We are rethinking our initial plan. We were interested in some sites on the way that people feel we should see. We realize that some distances may be long, hectic and boring. We also realize in the time frame we can't take in everything in but like to do what people consider sites we shouldn't miss. We are older and will be doing mainly sedentary sight seeing.

I make this drive frequently, but always up I-75 and then west on I-10. It's a solid 16 hours every time I do it. When I have extra time, I spend the night in New Orleans, which is pretty much halfway. You might consider that.

driving isnt very fun. I would check out some of those long distance car service companies. One of the good ones ive used is OnCabs San Antonio. Theyll pick you up from anywhere in texas and take you to san antonio. They have some great deals as well.
