Driving from MD to NYC for Auto Show but don't want to drive into NYC - Which city in NJ should we park and train in from?
I did this 3 years ago, drive up I-95 on a Saturday for the NY Auto Show, took the NJ Turnpike, then stopped off at some city near NYC and parked for cheap in their train lot, and trained it on into the city from there. Which city is good for that?
Thanks in advance! Steve R Silver Spring MD |
I can recommend the (very nice) Hamilton train station which is one station north of Trenton, NJ.
Easy to get to from the Turnpike, parking is only $3.00 and train service to new york runs about twice an hour. |
metropark is easy too. right where the turnpike and garden state parkway meet. it has a large parking garage and frequent train service into the city.

What's the objective? To get as close to NYC w/o driving in? Cheapest for parking/train?
Personally, I'd just drive in and park. Here's an old thread that has some options (including mine on how to find a cheap garage in town) http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...p;tid=34413983 |
You can try Hoboken (for the PATH train) or Weehawken (for the Ferry).
My own preference is to drive into NYC early on Saturday, and look for some free on street parking. Your best bet is to look between 9th and 11th Avenues, between 30th and 40th Streets. I've been doing this regularly for quite a while and have not had difficulty finding a free parking place. Just pay attention to the signs and you won't get a ticket or towed. |
gb - Excellent idea! I hadn't thought about driving in, but it can be alot easier in some ways.

Keep an eye out for this weekend's weather Steve -- it could be significant snow. Just thought I'd pass that along. :)

Thanks for the snow tip, but luckily the auto show in NYC isn't till April 15th :o)
Yahoooooooooooo - we're driving into the city instead of doing the train. That's actually better for us, as I prefer to be in my own car for as long as possible on long trips. Nice to hear tunes and local radio. Steve R |
Yeah, you should be okay by then, LOL! :D
